IMPORTANCE OF HAJJ, AND ITS RITUALS

Hajj is striving in path of ALLAH, relinquishing worldly luxuries, refraining from lucrative activities and desires, accomplishing rituals to give a boost to the bond with ALLAH by venerating the practices of Hazrat Adam (AS). Hajj is the fifth and the most fundamental pillar of Islam that commemorates many sacramental ceremonies that symbolizes the necessary vitalities of Islamic faith, among the five important pillars, Hajj holds whole ingredients for a Muslim to revitalize one’s faith in order to achieve the level of distinction in sight of ALLAH Almighty. Quran says in verse 2:196:

 And complete the Hajj and ‘umrah for ALLAH . But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter. And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice. And when you are secure, then whoever performs ‘umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] – then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. Those are ten complete [days]. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Haram. And fear ALLAH and know that ALLAH is severe in penalty.

 Pilgrims who undertakes Hajj by travelling to Mecca is exclusive guest of ALLAH. Hajj is the essence of heavenly teachings of Islam and Holy Quran that expiates all sins when perform with devoted and pure intention for sake of ALLAH.

 Fundamentals of Hajj

ALLAH has declared the practices and rituals of Hajj an obligation upon every Muslim who is

  1. Muslim having strong Imaan (faith) in the oneness of ALLAH and all the declarations in Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH).
  2. Physically and mentally sane to perform the all rituals of Hajj.
  3. Possess understanding and puberty to undertake the Hajj.
  4. A person should not be in debt and gross responsibilities
  5. Financially stable having enough wealth, health and stealth for ALLAH to perform this obligation once in a life time.

 Hajj is the ultimate from of worship that involves the spirit of other rituals. Rituals of Hajj are;

  1. Wearing Ihram

Hajj started when the pilgrim entered in Mecca in the state of ihram. Ihram is two-piece white dress for men and a loose dress for women in which they are not allowed to hide their hands and face.

  1. Enter into Masjid-Ul-Haram

After wearing ihram pilgrim enters into Masjid-ul-Haram, he or she should enter with their right foot.

  1. Niyyah (intention) for Hajj

The next thing that a pilgrim must do in his heart is Niyyah (intention). The intention should be based on pure devotion by standing next to Kaabah with Hajr-e-Aswad to right and recite talbiyah.

  1. Performing Tawaaf (circumambulation)

Tawaaf is the devotional ritual of circumambulation Holy Kaabah while reciting supplications and prayers to beseech ALLAH’S forgiveness and mercy. During Tawaaf can touch and kiss the black Holy stone Hajr-e-Aswad pertaining to the Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH).

  1. Performing Saaee and Going to Mina

Aftar Tawaf the pilgrim performs saaee. It is the devotional act of walking or running between mountains of Al- Safa and Al-Marwa.

  1. Arafat and Dua (Supplications)

The pilgrim leaves for Arafat on ninth day of zil-Hajj. A pilgrim’s Hajj will be invalid if he or she does not spend time on mount of Arafat.

  1. Sacrifice and Jamraat

On the tenth of zil-Hajj, pilgrim sacrifices animals to follow the divine ritual of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), the pilgrims stoning or hitting the devil that is called Jamraat in Arabic.
