RITUAL OF PERFORMING THE HAJJ

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam that is performed every year in the month of Zilhaj, Muslims should perform Hajj not only physically, but spiritually as well. Muslim should understand the meaning and the value of performing Hajj and should learn the lesson from this act of worship. Following are the some rituals of the hajj;

• In the state of Ihram Muslim feels purified and it raise the soul to a high spiritual level and the everlasting life. Ihram makes the pilgrim equal to others, humble, and polite. The restrictions for the pilgrim in the state of Ihram are very rigorous in terms the way of  behaving with other pilgrims and with other people, with himself, and with ALLAH and also in terms of using daily worldly things, this makes Hajj a school of discipline, self-control and taqwah . This is a school that produces righteous, decent, hardworking and honest people, like as the five times daily prayers and the fasting in month of Ramadan and the other pillars of Islam do.

• During Hajj and Umrah Muslims do tawaaf, Tawaaf is a Circumambulation around Kaaba seven times. Kissing the (Hajre Aswad) Black Stone, this stone was brought from Jannat, by kissing Hajre Aswad we remember the life hereafter and pray to ALLAH Almighty that hereafter Paradise will be our abode. In Hadees, the Prophet (pbuh) said that when the Black Stone i.e. Hajre Aswad was brought from Jannat, it was very white, it darkened and became black just because of the sins of human beings. Muslims kiss the Hajre Aswad because the Prophet (PBUH) kissed it and it is a sunnah.

•  In as-Safaa and al-Marwah we commemorate Bibi Haajra (Peace be upon her), the mother of Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) and the wife of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). She ran between the mountains of Safa and Marwa, while looking for some water for her son Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) than In the middle of desert, water sprung out. ALLAH answered her dua and blessed her with water. ALLAH wants Muslims to learn from her that’s why we do saee while performing Umrah and Hajj.

ALLAH says is Quran 2:158;

“Behold! As-Safa and al-Marwah are among the Symbols of ALLAH. So if those who visit the House in the Season or at other times should compass them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeys his own impulse to Good, be sure that ALLAH is He Who recognizes and knows.”

• In Arafaat we honour the Success of Muslims over the pagans of Mecca. It was the great success of truth over falsehood. On this place, Muslim remembers that truth prevails always no matter how long it takes for falsehood to last and deceive. Arafaat is the symbol of solidarity and unity; it’s a pillar of Hajj that must be done by all the pilgrims by following the same way.

• In the Stoning at al-Jamaraat, Muslims hit shetans with stones; Shetan is our enemy since the time of Hazrat Adam (AS). We must remember how Shetan does his utmost effort to distract us from ibadat and doing what we supposed to do to become closer to ALLAH and to enter in Jannat or Paradise.
