Every person might look calm and composed from the outside, but there is volcano within that person. If a person can keep calm when angry, then he must have great and genuine self-control. Everyone should always be balanced in what we choose to say, whether we are upset or happy, whether we like what is happening or hate it. Calm manifests itself in the tone of our voice, by the words we choose, by our gestures, by facial expressions, and by our deportment.

We should keep this in our mind that our worship is not restricted to namaz, fasting, and the sacred pilgrimage Hajj. Our life itself is worship. We should conduct ourselves accordingly. Self control means to abstain from responding recklessly to circumstance or what goes on around us. It means to restrict ourselves to respond properly according to teaching of Islam, our personal past experience and whatever we learn from the experiences of others.

It’s a part of every human nature to experience harsh periods of intensity and periods of listlessness. A person need to deal with every frustration in our lives as it is being monitored by a hidden camera and that is waiting to record our reactions to the situation. This thing will make us reacting more judiciously and it helps in learning to control ourselves. Self-control and composure are praiseworthy qualities, while on the other side reacting recklessly and rudely is a sign of feeble mind and weakness of character. Islam doesn’t like person to react in anger or behave irrational with anyone,
those people who possess a measure of calm never attain the skill of humbleness and calmness overnight. A person can learn to be calm and polite after many attempts and facing different situations.

ALLAH says in Quran, Surah Al-Ankaboot verse 69;

“And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.”

In a verse of Surah al-Hujurat, addresses a number of related issues, like ordering people not to raise their voices above that of the Prophet (PBUH), not to spread rumours, not to insult people, avoid suspicion and not to make fun of any person. Surah al-Hujurat of the Quran also strongly condemns chauvinism, racism and dissention.

Looking things positively, even the sorrows and provocations we face, is something that stems from our faith in wisdom of ALLAH, this gives us a new perception on things. Since being Muslim we expect the best from ALLAH and instead of reacting badly or negatively, we should act calmly and focus to avail ourselves for the opportunities that new set of situation presents to us.

When we talk about being calm, humble and collected, it doesn’t mean that we are neglecting human nature, feelings and our natural qualities but it means to add qualities according to the teaching of Islam and Prophet (PBUH).
